Abbas Karimi, a Hazara American swimmer, a member of the U.S. Paralympic team, is another shining example of human will and ability. Born in Kabul without arms, he faced significant discrimination and humiliation from an early age in Afghan-istan society. However, these challenges did not stop him from pursuing growth and progress. At the age of 16, Abbas was forced to leave Afghanistan and embarked on a new life in search of hope and opportunity.
In 2020, Abbas Karimi competed as part of the refugee team in the Tokyo Olympics, sharing a story of courage and perseverance with the world. After being granted U.S. citizenship in 2022, he continued his professional journey with the U.S. Paralympic team, achieving further success in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. His team won two silver medals in the freestyle swimming competition through relentless effort and exemplary determination.
