Blue Veins in Red Soil a book by Keyhan Farahmand is an Inner Narrative of the Hazara Community in Australia is a research-driven and accessible account of the Hazara experience in Australia. The book offers a clear and layered picture of how this community has rebuilt its life—from its historical roots and the long record of persecution, to forced migration, asylum journeys, settlement, and the social and cultural contributions they make today.
Across ten chapters, the author examines key issues affecting the Hazara community, including their path to protection and residency, their economic and educational conditions, the role of cultural and civic organisations, community celebrations and traditions, the Enlightenment Movement, and the identity challenges faced by different generations. The book draws on Australia’s 2021 Census data as well as personal stories, combining factual accuracy with a strong human element.

At its heart, the book highlights the resilience of a community that has turned hardship and migration into new opportunities. It shows how Hazaras have not only sought safety, but have also brought new energy, culture, and social connections to Australia—veins of life and hope flowing through the red soil of their new home.
